Top Storylines Heading into the Pennsylvania 50 at Jennerstown Speedway

The yourBIGplans.com 500 Sprint Car Tour heads to Jennerstown Speedway for its first ever appearance in Pennsylvania. There is no shortage of storylines as the tour competes in the Pennsylvania 50.

Fans can expect 50 laps of intense side-by-side action as the tour's talented roster battles to become the first winner at the series' newest venue.

Eastward Bound

On Saturday, July 11th, a new chapter in the yourBIGplans.com 500 Sprint Car Tour history will be written as the series makes its long-awaited debut at Jennerstown Speedway Complex for the inaugural Pennsylvania 50. The event marks several significant milestones for both the tour and the historic Pennsylvania oval. Not only will it be the first appearance by the yourBIGplans.com 500 Sprint Car Tour at Jennerstown, but it will also be the easternmost race ever contested by the series. Even more notably, the Pennsylvania 50 will feature the first non-wing pavement sprint car race in the history of the Somerset County facility. Known for producing exciting racing across a variety of divisions, Jennerstown Speedway Complex has hosted countless marquee events throughout its history. This weekend, fans will witness a completely new style of competition as the powerful, wingless pavement sprint cars make their first laps around the fast 1/2-mile oval.

Can Swanson continue to stay hot?

Four time, and reigning, Little 500 Champion, Kody Swanson, started off the 2026 season with a bang. Winning the first event of the season at Anderson Speedway in April, Swanson showed that he was primed and ready for another championship run in 2026. He followed that win with a more than impressive victory in the non points earning Little 500 over Memorial Day Weekend. After a postponed event in Toledo, the series went on to Winchester Speedway, a place where Swanson went to victory lane in 2025, and he brought home a successful third place finish. As the series gears up for its heart of the season, can Swanson keep up the pace to become a three time series champion?

Does win number two come quickly?

Win number one took just over three years to arrive, but how quickly can win number two come for Jackson Macenko and Brad Hayes Racing? The 2022 500 Sprint Car Tour Rookie of the Year, Jackson Macenko had been showing consistent speed and improvement, making a first career victory feel as though it was right around the corner. That first win came in the yourBIGplans.com 500 Sprint Car Tour’s most recent event at Winchester Speedway. A sense of relief after reaching that career accomplishment came over the team and of Macenko. Now, as the series heads to another fast ½ mile track, the pressure to win now is off and Macenko can focus on chasing his first Series Championship. With win number one out of the way, could we see win number two just one race later?

O’Gara racing for trophies

After engine problems plagued the first couple months of the 2026 racing season for Kyle O’Gara, he and the team are shifting their focus to race wins over championship point performance. The mindset for every driver is to go into every race expecting a win. However, if a win feels out of place, the plan shifts to focusing on championship points and having the best worst finish of everyone else. That strategy no longer applies to O’Gara as the team plans to take the season race by race, and chase trophies. O’Gara is a multiple time race winner on the 500 Sprint Car Tour, and has been in contention for the series championship on multiple occasions. Always fast, and always dangerous, O’Gara will hope to win as many races as possible and maybe even spoil a couple championship dreams along the way.

Shelbo continues to improve with more seat time

Olivia Shelbo is no stranger to risking it all to follow a dream and do what she loves. During her rookie season, a scary practice incident at Toledo Speedway in 2024 sidelined her for the rest of the season and created a total rebuild of her racing program. Almost 13 months later, the team returned to the track, but with her Father, Kevin Shelbo, behind the wheel. Olivia missed the entire 2025 500 Sprint Car Tour season while Kevin got the program back on track. Coming into 2026, it was time to get back to work as she climbed back into the #8 Shelbo Sprint Car for the first time in nearly two years. As the weeks have gone by, Shelbo has shown steady improvement and looks to be getting more and more comfortable behind the wheel. Her, and Kevin, will be making the trip to Jennerstown to continue getting more experience, and risking it all once again to chase their sprint car racing dreams.

Byrd coming off of career best finish

Nathan Byrd, sporting the series sponsor yourBIGplans.com all season long, just came off of his best finish since he started competing with the 500 Sprint Car Tour. Byrd has been a familiar name on 500 Sprint Car Tour entry lists for the past two seasons, as well as a familiar name around the NASCAR garages as well. With many starts in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck series, as well as multiple starts in the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series, Byrd has become a household name both on and off the track. The various forms of racing experience has been evident in his recent sprint car success. After missing the opening race of the 2026 season, as well as the Little 500 in May, Byrd got right behind the wheel at Winchester Speedway and showed immediate speed. Coming home with a career best 4th place finish, Byrd will be looking to continue that pace and consistency as the Tour heads to Jennerstown Speedway.

Quiet but deadly - Bischak

A man of very few words, is a dangerous man. Derek Bischak fits this mold more so than any other competitor on the 500 Sprint Car Tour Grid. Bischak is known for a demeanor that can only be explained as quiet and methodical. Once he straps in and tightens the buckle on his helmet, that demeanor goes out the window. Bischak and his Father, Bob, have been a fixture in short track, open wheel racing for many years. The pair always shows up to the track prepared and ready to go fast. And boy does he go fast…Starting the 2026 season off strong, Bischak brought home a 6th place finish in the season opening event, and a 7th place finish in the Little 500 a month later. Bischak will be looking for another strong, and quiet, performance at a track that fits his skillset this weekend at Jennerstown.
